Forest Management
Protect your home and all its contents. West Sonoma County is a high-risk fire area where forest management and clearing is the responsibility of the property owner. Although there are no guarantees that fire will not devastate even the highest maintained property, there are a few steps we can take to beat it back and increase the chances of saving your investment and/or family home.
- Trim and/or cut branches hanging over structures.
- Clear all roofs and gutters of debris.
- Limb all trees at least 6 feet from the ground to help prevent the fire from traveling up the trunk and into its canopy.
- All stacked wood piles should be away from any structures
- Weed and mow any vegetation and/or dry brush at least 100 feet from all structures and out buildings.
"I am very proud to announce that Creative Environments has won the prestigious CLCA
Herb Frank Award for the best commercial installation of all those entered in the state. The Medlock Ames new tasting room in the heart of Alexander Valley was the sweepstakes winner in the local North Coast Chapter of the CLCA as well."
Harry North
Owner/CEO
Creative Environments—local family-owned and operated landscape
company with 30+ years experience—continues to shine by winning a sweepstakes award for the
sustainable, modern design installation of Medlock Ames’ new tasting room in the heart of Alexander Valley.
The Medlock Ames project allowed owner, Harry North, and his team to spotlight smart conservation
features and a productive edible landscape in a beautiful communal forum, inspiring guests to envision
implementing similar techniques in their own backyards.
On June 10th, Creative Environments received the Overall Sweepstakes Award from the North Coast Chapter, California Landscape Contractors Association, for the Medlock Ames Tasting Room project—the ultimate industry achievement award, judged to be the best overall project in residential and commercial installation projects for the entire North Coast, from Marin County to the Oregon border.
Creative Environments worked together with EarthTone Construction and the landscape architecture firm of Nelson, Byrd, Woltz, to help owners Chris Medlock James and Ames Morison build a garden that works with nature.
“From the very first day we knew that this was going to be a very different project through everything: a green theme, from the reclaimed building itself, to the repurposed fencing, recycled concrete as well as the organic fertilizers that were incorporated into the planting areas,” commented Harry North of Creative Environments. “The large galvanized planter boxes will never need to be replaced nor will they release any toxins into the soil. The nature of the paving provides good water infiltration back to the ground water. The rain garden makes use of natural water filtration through plant material and sand, with almost all of the water flowing through this feature before it continues to the soils below. From the recycled materials used for new construction, to the surrounding meadow planted with indigenous flora, the green theme was always the top priority.”
Medlock Ames wines are made from sustainable, organic and bio dynamic grapes. Their actual winery is not open to the public. The new Medlock Ames tasting room/speakeasy is surrounded by mature olive trees installed by Creative Environments. The fire pit and the slab table and benches make this a wonderful place to sit and have a leisurely lunch.
“We really enjoyed working on the Medlock Ames project,” said North. “It gave us the chance to spotlight water conservation tools and design that people can rally around, and take to their own backyards with Creative Environments as a partner.”
